Kurja कुरजां

Kurja is the migratory crane of Rajasthani folk songs, the bird that leaves every year and is sung home. This wall follows three generations of my family as they moved: from a village in Barmer through the towns of Rajasthan to Jodhpur, and then outward to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and London. The first move was for education. The ones after it were for work.

In the gallery, every board hangs on two pegs with a second photograph behind it. Visitors lift the prints and rehang them, and each move makes a new arrangement and a new story.

Drag a photograph to lift it and see what is behind. Drop it on any other place on the wall.
